Type should be employed with proper consideration for its force in presenting the copy and keeping to the authenticity of the book being restored.
After all is said and done, Types is a most important part of the Bookbinding, Book Arts, Book Restoration process.
Note on the image above a fellow Bookbinder sets his line of type directly at the bottom of the Kwikprint Typeholder. This will work adequately for one line of Kwikprint Hot Stamping Type.
However when multiple lines of type are set, very large dies or Kwikprint Type are used it is recommended that a 12 point bar of Strip Material be set in the Kwikprint typeholder prior to setting type.
Kwikprint Helpful Hint:
We do not set Kwikprint type at the bottom of the Kwikprint Typeholder. It is to close to the heating element and each successive line above receives less heat. this results in a poorly printed Job. If the operator turns up the heat or applies more pressure to compensate for the lack of heat in the above lines it will damage the type and cause the imprinte to come out very poorly.
Wat occurs when multiple lines are set is the first line closest to the heating element gets very hot and the last line closest to the reaining screw (shown at the top of the holder) does not receive enough heat. this cuses the user to turn up the heat and/or apply excessive pressure when imprinting resulting in a poor impression and damagin the type.
Helpful Hint:
It is recommended that a 12 point (1/4") bar of strip Material be placed at the base of the Kwikproint Typeholder prior to setting type. this keeps the heating element from overheating the first line of type and helps greatly with an even heat distribution. This is a good practice to do at the top of the form as well where the pillar screw (retaining screw) is use to hold the type in place (See photo above. Strip material indicated by yellow arrows)
